DNS problems are some of the most frustrating hosting issues a business can face. Your website stops loading. Emails bounce. Customers can’t reach you. And the error messages — “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN”, “This site can’t be reached”, “Server DNS address could not be found” — tell you almost nothing useful about what to actually fix.
At Australian Hosting Solutions, part of the AIIMS Group infrastructure, we handle DNS issues directly on the phone. You don’t need to understand DNS to fix it — you just need to call us.
DNS propagation — the time it takes for a DNS change to spread across all servers worldwide — typically takes between 30 minutes and 48 hours. For Australian businesses, propagation to local ISPs (Telstra, Optus, TPG) generally completes within 2–4 hours if the TTL (Time to Live) on your records is set correctly.
If propagation is taking longer than 48 hours, something is wrong — the records may have been set incorrectly, the TTL was too high before the change, or there is a conflict in the zone file. Call us and we will diagnose it in real time.
| Record Type | What It Does | Common Problem |
|---|---|---|
| A Record | Maps your domain to an IP address (your server) | Old IP after server migration — site does not load |
| MX Record | Tells the internet where to deliver email for your domain | Missing or wrong MX — emails bounce |
| CNAME | Aliases one domain to another (e.g. www to root domain) | www subdomain not resolving |
| TXT Record | Stores text data — used for SPF, DKIM, Google verification | Emails going to spam, Search Console not verifying |
| NS Record | Tells the internet which nameservers manage your DNS | Wrong nameservers after domain transfer |
| TTL | How long DNS servers cache your records | High TTL causes slow propagation after changes |
The most common cause of email failures after a DNS change is a missing or incorrect MX record. When you change nameservers or migrate to a new host, MX records need to be manually recreated in the new DNS zone — they do not transfer automatically.
Other common causes include missing SPF records, DKIM not configured on the new server, old MX records still cached during propagation, and third-party email provider records (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) not added to the new zone.

DNS propagation in Australia typically takes 30 minutes to 4 hours for most ISPs. Full global propagation can take up to 48 hours. If it is taking longer, your records may be incorrect — call us to check.
This error means your browser cannot find the DNS record for your domain. It usually means the domain has expired, the nameservers are pointing to the wrong host, or the A record is missing. It can also appear if your local DNS cache is stale — try flushing your DNS cache or testing on mobile data first.
Yes, it can — if you do not recreate your MX records in the new DNS zone before or immediately after changing nameservers. Always document your existing DNS records before making a nameserver change. If your email has stopped working after a nameserver change, call us and we will fix it on the call.
Our nameservers are ns1.australianhostingsolutions.com.au and ns2.australianhostingsolutions.com.au. Log in to your domain registrar account, navigate to nameserver settings, and replace the existing values with these. If your domain is registered with us, we configure this automatically.
Yes. Call (02) 9199 8787 and describe the symptom — “my website is down”, “my emails are bouncing”, “my domain isn’t loading”. We access your hosting account, check the DNS zone, identify the problem, and fix it. You do not need to understand the technical details.
Domain transfers do not automatically carry DNS records. When a domain moves to a new registrar, the DNS zone often resets. You need to recreate all your A records, MX records, CNAME records, and TXT records in the new registrar’s DNS panel. Call us immediately — we can recover your zone records from our hosting records and re-enter them for you.
